Color Names vs. Color Colors August 25, 2008

We’ve spent way too much time in the Home Depot paint section.  It’s hard enough to pick out the colors you’ll be staring at for the next xx years, but trying to decide with a crying baby and a toddler who wants to collect every paint chip…. ugh.

Anyway, I keep catching myself picking colors by their name rather than their shade.  Even when Cody asks “hey, what do you think of this one?”  I respond with a questions “what’s its name?”

As of today… here are the color names for our house.  I’m taking a break from packing, so you get the privilege of knowing the color names :)

  • Most of the down-stairs/living room/dining room:  Ice Flower
  • Kitchen:  Moon Dance & Valley Mist
  • Stairs and middle upstairs: Palatial
  • Playroom: February Frost
  • Guest room / sewing room:  Moon Dance
  • Master bedroom:  Simplicity
  • Girls’ room:  Be Mine & Seafoam Spray
  • downstairs bathroom:  ?? Palatial
  • upstairs bathroom:  ?? February Frost

Something about JM August 25, 2008

Music really speaks to me.  We’re a pretty musical household, and I’m not just talking about the abilities of my husband or the budding talents of my two-year-old.  It’s rare that there’s not some sort of music playing in the house, and in the car.

We’re not necessarily married to one or two genres of music.  We have one rule:  it just has to be good.  So, we’re often suprised to find more modern/pop music playing in our car… we usually perfer the older stuff, but lately we’ve been impressed with some of the music and bands out today.

So speaking of both the old and the young, there must be something about JM.

Joni Mitchell and/or John Mayer.

Both are amazing.  And both sing directly to my heart. Music and lyrics together can invoke so many emotions, memories, and feelings.

Daily Joni Mitchell’s “Hits” and “Blue” are played through the house.  John Mayer has been bumped up on my priority list with his “Continium” album.

Oh to have the ability to write that like.

I’m not good with colors.  I’m actually amazed that I can get myself dressed in the morning and look halfway decent.

But, here we are looking at paint chips and it’s my (our) job to pick colors for the house.

A major concern…. the kitchen.

Here it is now (dishes in the sink and all!)

I’ve always wanted to decorate around my dishes… with green or yellow.

But our kitchen is certainly retro.  I’ve been browsing HGTV’s website (but all the kitchens are so modern and big) and finally ended up doing a search on Flickr (“kitchen” “1950″).  And I found this lady’s kitchen….  I think it could totally work for us!

Check out the pictures of LemonCadet’s kitchen and hutch — I love the wall colors, floor, and the layout seems much like ours.

Thoughts?

Wow August 14, 2008

So, with me on the phone, and the phone in his pocket, I got to hear the bidding process of a house up for auction today, through my husband’s shirt pocket.

It was kind-of fuzzy, and loud, and confusing.  So confusing that I was certain that we did not get the house.

And when I heard him say, “We got the house.  I’ll call you back” — I wasn’t sure if he said “got” or “lost”

It was GOT!

Wow.  Remind me to share how awesome God is.

If it’s too good to be true… August 13, 2008

… it probably is.

We’ve been house hunting.  Sort-of.  We’ve been browsing?  Driving around and dreaming is more like it.

But in all this driving and dreaming we found a great house.  Perfect really.  We could definately grow into it and never have to move.  Good neighborhood.  Good yard.  Bad kitchen, but we could fix that.  Needs paint; pull up the carpet. And some love.  Which we have.   It’s so “us.”  I’ve been alternating between calling it “my house” and “that stupid house.”

And it’s for auction.  So, we’re going to try to get it.

I’ve been trying to not get my hopes up so bad, that I think I’ve put myself in a depression (not the “clinical” kind).  I feel like a kid on the eve of a very disappointing Christmas.  I’m ready to move in or move on.  I just want to know…

Will we get it?  Do I want it?  Home ownership sounds so grown-up…  Yikes!  As we talk about morgages, we realize that we’ll be xx years old in 15 years.  Our girls will be thinking about college.  We could have our house paid off and then pay for college?  What?!?  She’s not even potty-trained!!

Anyway, you’ll know when I know….(tomorrow afternoon)

Childbirth Decisions

“You might think of your baby’s birth as the happiest moment of your life. But childbirth can also be scary, especially for first-time or high-risk parents. Having a plan and feeling like you have some control over what will happen to you often lessens the anxiety associated with labor and delivery. Birth plans run the gamut from pre-scheduled C-sections under general anesthesia to medication-free water births at home. You might be assisted by doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, midwives, doulas, your partner, or your whole extended family. This Wednesday we’ll take a look at the decisions surrounding childbirth, and how to determine what kind of experience is right for you.”

$3.69 at a Walmart Market August 12, 2008

We’ve spent a lot of time driving around town looking for houses for sell, plus a “trip” to my in-laws’ neck of the woods which is 30+ miles away one way.  So… we had to fill up again today, sooner than normal.

As we were driving home this evening, my husband began to pull into a Thortons that had gas for 3.68.  I said, “don’t you think the Walmart near home will be cheaper?”

It wasn’t.

Oops.

How many elective cesareans took place today for the cute-ness factor?

Baby born on 8-08-08 at 8:08

(and you won’t believe what the girl weighed!)

Published Friday, August 8, 2008

Talk about a memorable birthday: A Fergus Falls family is welcoming a baby girl born at 8:08 a.m. on the eighth day of August, weighing in at eight pounds, eight ounces.

Lindsay Hauer’s cesarean section was scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday morning at Lake Region Hospital and began right on the dot. When hospital staff told her the time of her daughter’s birth, Hauer thought they were pulling her leg.

“I thought they were just joking,” she said. “I didn’t believe them when they told me.”

“The time was to the minute,” said Hauer’s husband, Joe.

Imagine Hauer’s surprise when, still in the operating room, she received a call from staff in the hospital’s birthing suite, where Hailey Jo Hauer was being measured and weighed.

“I had the scale on grams at first,” said Jenny Harstad, Hauer’s nurse. Based on the baby’s weight in grams, Harstad estimated Hailey would weigh-in within the eight-pound range. She later joked she’d hoped to find significance in the baby’s length as well.

“I was trying to shrink her down to 18 inches,” Harstad said. Instead, Hailey measured 19.5 inches.

Back in the operating room, hospital staff resolved to buy lottery tickets later in the day.

“My anesthesiologist said to me, ‘Do you realize this is once in a million? This will not happen anywhere else,’” Hauer said.

Hailey is Lindsay and Joe Hauer’s second child. Evan Hauer, 16 months, will meet his sister Saturday.

“We’ll introduce him tomorrow and see how it goes,” Joe Hauer said.
